Townkins was a delightful app-based (and app-only) farming game that, to me, included all the best parts of the old-school farming sims—plus a dash of Pioneer Ville (or maybe it was Pioneer Something?). It had charm, flexibility, and not too much bad. I’ll get into my issues with it later.
One of its biggest strengths: you didn’t have to grow everything yourself. Accidentally sell off all your wheat? Not growing enough hot peppers in time? No problem—you could buy what you needed from your neighbors. That kind of cooperative gameplay made it feel generous and forgiving.
Regrettably, the developers stopped actively supporting the game several years ago. Despite repeated promises of updates “coming soon” in response to player tickets, nothing materialized. Eventually, they abandoned the project entirely, and Townkins officially shut down on September 30, 2023.
The app is no longer available to download or play. If you still have it installed on your device, it will generate a server connection error when you try to log in.
